I am not motivated to run every day

... but I do it anyway.

Of course, I watch many motivational videos on YouTube, listen to motivational podcasts, and read motivational articles.

The problem is that motivation has a short shelf life for me.

Sometimes motivation can positively affect my run if I see something motivating just before the run. Still, often there is no motivation inside my head when the running starts.

Another thing is that if motivation is to work on me, then I also have to be in the mood to be motivated, which is not always the case either.

So what do I need when I run every day?

The keyword is discipline - self-discipline.

Self-discipline is much more rigid to achieve than motivation because self-discipline requires a lot of hard work.

Self-discipline is getting out the door seven days a week to run.

Self-discipline is running in all kinds of weather.

There are millions of reasons not to run.

But self-discipline leads to a habit over time.

Listen to an interview with me about habits (The interview is in danish).

You do not "go" from 0 - 100 running km the first week.

I started by running 4.5 km every day; I could overcome it, and the times were indeed not impressive, but it did not matter. I got started.

So whether I sleep too long, work until 6 p.m., or am on holiday, I always find time to run.

It is always inspiring to see, hear or read motivating things, but if you need to build a constant habit, it requires hard work every day.

When I can build a habit, so can you - give it time and keep going.
